Heritage Tree Conservation / Restoration, Calgary
Our company has been responsible for conserving and restoring the vigour of several heritage trees and stands in the Calgary area. One example is the Calgary Historic Courthouse Amur Cherries. During an early phase of the LRT construction these trees were highly impacted by pavements and alterations to soil conditions. The photograph illustrates the success of sustainable soil-based restoration methods in maintaining healthy trees in ultra-urban conditions. Another example is a heritage elm located within a parking lot near the Calgary Stampede Casino. Again, progressive impacts were threatening to eradicate this tree. The grades of the parking lot were altered to optimize the irrigation to the tree, a protection zone was created and soil conditions were improved, resulting in a healthy heritage elm tree.
