East Bowmont Stormwater Quality Retrofit, Calgary
The East Bowmont Stormwater Quality Retrofit (SWQR) project is an end-of-pipe facility constructed by the City of Calgary on a major existing urban catchment area. The general purpose of the project is to improve stormwater quality by removing sediment and nutrients prior to discharging to the Bow River. Under maximum flow conditions, stormwater is diverted at a rate as high as 7.5 m³/s from three large storm trunks that convey a maximum combined flow of almost 50 m³/s from the upstream catchment. One of the key project objectives was to provide safe and reliable energy dissipation and control of the very high velocity flow in the stormwater trunks.
