Ranchlands Wetland and Associated Environments, Medicine Hat
This is a phased project that will construct a large wetland to manage stormwater from a long-term development area in Northeast Medicine Hat. Once fully constructed, the wetland facility will be able to treat 100,000 m3 during a major event from the developed catchment area. The treated water will then discharge to the South Saskatchewan River by both infiltration and a naturalized outlet channel. Adjacent to this wetland is a large area that was conserved and ecologically restored to integrate riparian and upland habitat to create a functioning ecosystem. The first phase of construction, including the majority of the ecological restoration work, was completed in 2006.
